Towards an obesity day Obesity is a chronic disease associated with type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer among other diseases. Because of it's explosive growth during the last few decades, the World Health Organization considers it an epidemic, similar to the great infectious epidemics of the past Given its association with serious comorbidities, obesity is in many countries the second leading cause of preventable mortality. It is also a source of one the most widely accepted forms of discrimination and stigma. Why an Obesity Day Declaring an obesity Day could contribute to increase awareness and gather efforts from different organizations and people involved with obesity, in order to inform, prevent and stimulate actions to help stopping the epidemic. In the section Support you will find some ways in which you can make this initiative come true. ¿When would the “obesity day” take place? Children are one of the most vulnerable groups to obesity and related diseases. For that reason, we had chosen November 20 th , Universal Children's Day to celebrate also and bring awareness about the fight against obesity.
